New Years... 2011

About 9 months ago I put a reminder in my phone for today... that said "Start booking New Year's Travel"... I also had a reminder about where I wanted to go. The Pink Sands Resort in the Bahamas. I was pleasantly surprised when the reminder popped up, because clearly I did not remember doing this 9 months ago. New Years 2011 planning has officially begun... Can't wait!!

happy hour thursday!

Football season is almost upon us, which means tailgating is also almost upon us. So why not sit in the shade of your tailgate and sip a refreshing cold cocktail prior (or after) the game? This orange margarita recipe looks so delish! Make the orange puree and syrup prior to leaving for the game and store them along with your ingredients in your cooler.
Blood Orange Margarita Recipe
*Makes one cocktail

1 lime wedge
Coarse sea salt for rim
Ice
2 ounces of tequila, preferably Sauza Hornitos
1-1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
3/4 ounce orange liqueur
1/2 ounce simple syrup
3/4 ounce blood orange puree (see below)
1 lime wheel
1 blood orange wheel optional
  • Moisten the outside edges of a rocks glass with a lime wedge. Sprinkle a little salt on a small plate and dip the moistened rim in the salt to coat it lightly. Fill the glass and a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, simple syrup and blood orange puree and shake vigorously. Strain into the glass, garnish with lime and blood orange wheels.
Blood Orange Puree
*Makes 3/4 cup

4 blood oranges, peeled, segmented and seeded
2 tablespoon simple syrup
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • In a blender or food processor, combine orange segments, simple syrup and lemon juice. Puree until smooth. Taste and adjust amounts of simple syrup and lemon juice as needed.
Simple Syrup
*Makes 1-1/2 cups

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine sugar and water and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Pour into a glass jar and cover, refrigerating until needed.

Red Riesling

As I was reading my Food & Wine Magazine last night, that was dedicated to all things Paris... I came across numerous articles about delicious wines. For years I only drank white, in fact, only Riesling. It wasn't until about a year ago that I started enjoying Red Wines, in particular Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon . As I became an avid wine drinker, I had heard that there was such a thing as Red Riesling. I did not believe these people. At all. Until.... last night. Food & Wine Magazine listed several Riesling, one in particular was Red Riesling.
"A very rare version of Riesling which has recently received more attention is Red Riesling (Roter Riesling). As the name suggests, this is a red-skinned clone of Riesling (a skin colour commonly found for e.g. Gewürztraminer), but not a dark-skinned clone, i.e., it is still a white wine grape. It is considered a mutation of White Riesling, but some experts have suggested the opposite relationship, i.e., that Red Riesling could be the forerunner of White Riesling.[10] Small amounts of Red Riesling is grown in Germany and Austria. In 2006, the Rheingau winery Fritz Allendorf planted what has been claimed to be the first commercial amounts of Red Riesling.[40] To confuse matters, "Red Riesling" has also been used as a synonym for red-skinned Traminer grapes (such as the Savagnin rose of Klevener de Heiligenstein) and the obscure variety Hanns, which is a seed plant of Roter Veltliner."

My mission is to find a bottle and test it out!

finally friday...

The Fall weather has arrived! I spent the last two days enjoying the beautiful cities of Cambridge and Easton, Maryland (for work), laying by the pool, walking along the Chesapeake Bay, and drinking Hurricanes. It was absolutely fabulous!

I arrived back in NYC late last night, and could tell the weather up here had changed. Its a bit chilly, high 60's and I'm in love. This, to me, is the most perfect weather to just stroll the city, especially Central Park. Not to hot, not to cold, just comfortable.

I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend with friends and family. I'm taking my lovely parents to the new and popular Empire Steakhouse tomorrow night. I plan to enjoy the Stone Street Oyster Festival and a night out on the town with some friends too. Overall, I think its going to be a pretty awesome weekend.

xoxo

finally friday...

It's a great day to set some goals or review existing ones. If you don't have a working list, it's time you started one. Brainstorm without censorship. Let your thoughts flow and write them down. Then prioritize the list, add the steps needed to reach each goal, and consider the time frame. Map out your life and go where you want.

I love this city.... I love fashion week... I love football and the start of fall... and I love that I'm finally picking up my new car tomorrow morning. Happy Weekend, Lovelies! xoxo

Eataly

I'm really looking forward to heading back to Eataly tomorrow night! I've been there a few times, but only once to eat. Eataly’s Manzo Restaurant is delicious, and romantic, and highly recommended. Tomorrow night, I'll be heading to BIRRERIA, a rooftop restaurant and brewery that offers the highest quality beer and food under the stars and skyline. In collaboration with Dogfish Head, Baladin and Del Borgo, we are brewing unfiltered, unpasteurized and naturally carbonated Cask Ales just 30 feet from where you sit, eat and drink. Each is served through traditional hand pumps, at the perfect temperature, so you can enjoy our beers in the most natural and traditional way. The menu conjures the family style feasts of an Italy influenced by Austria and Germany. Its dishes are unlike anything served at Eataly’s five restaurants with a focus on hearty fare that feels convivial and comforting: deeply flavorful mushroom entrees, pork shoulder paired with house made pickled vegetables and sauerkraut, house made sausages and grilled meats.

Pumpkin Pie Milkshake!

Pumpkin pie milkshake

Once you've made your pie (simply use the pie from the can!) let is cool for a few hours or overnight. To make a single milkshake blend together 1 slice of pumpkin pie, 2 cups vanilla ice cream and 1 to 1 1/2 cups milk. If you are making multiple milkshakes at once simply double or triple this recipe to suit your guest list. Super simple, and simply delicious!

Labor Day Love

So this weekend is hereby proclaimed "The Last Days of Summer". Go ahead, take part. Wear your white sundress. Eat your last snow cone. Drink a daiquiri. Lay out. Go barefoot. Sport coral polish. Listen to Jimmy Buffet. Do summer, one more time. I'm going to, along with some fabulous friends.

Oh, and this will be my weekend wardrobe. Bathing suit, hat, sunglasses, jean shorts... and of course, a cocktail! Enjoy!

finally friday...

Happy Long Weekend....

Well this is it... The end of summer is upon us. So many amazing things happened… from fabulous vacations, fun parties, and good times with treasured friends old and new. No wonder the summer has flown by.

While some may dread the end of long summer days, I absolutely love the fall. There’s something energizing about crisp fall mornings, bustling off to work, pulling on jeans and sweatshirts again. Making comfort foods, and watching football. Fresh seasons bring clean slates and fresh starts. It’s a good thing.

Happy Labor Day Weekend my lovelies… xoxo
